Agricultural sector remains Ethiopia’s Achilles heel and source of vulnerability nonetheless it remains convinced that agricultural based development is the only sources of hope for Ethiopia. But as global climate changes and poses a serious challenge, Ethiopia demands experts in areas of development who able to understand and investigate the climate posed problems and threats on socio-economic development. This master programme will certainly provide me knowledge and skills necessary to focus on the insights and on the social and economic implications of climate change in the broadest sense
The processes and patterns of development are examined in reference to experiences by nations of the world overtime by placing them in a global system of social, political and economic relationships. It is informed by the awareness that the development challenges cannot be addressed without understanding the interaction between local dynamics and global structures; building around the recognition that all development issues in Ethiopia should arise from a combination of economic, political and social processes across the globe. But, this has long been ignored or not well addressed by policy makers or government officials.
Currently I am working as a lecturer in Dilla University; teaching different development oriented courses. The university has opened new degree program in Socio-Economic Development Planning. Because of all this and the need of the nation, it is the plan of the university to train academic staffs in areas of development issues at national and international levels. The university in particular and Ethiopia in general are highly in need of academicians in area of international development. So, further study in international development studies will certainly provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary to formulate, implement, and assess socio-economic development policies at local-level. It is my honor, up on the completion of this study to put all my acquired knowledge, skills and experiences to scale up the aspiration of the university and my country.
I am sure that the combination of my educational background with intensive work experience will make me eligible candidate. My decision to pursue further study in this program is the result of long analysis of intellectual potentials, educational background, profound interest and its relevance to my country. Besides teaching different courses; I have a great ambition to be agent of change through research work and participating actively towards devising and implementing effective development policies in Ethiopia.
